Why strategy matters

Why strategy matters.

Have you ever tried to put together an IKEA bookshelf? No fun. Now imagine the headache if you had to attempt assembly without instructions… no thanks, right?

This is similar to going at social media marketing without a plan… Can it work? Maybe. Will it give you a massive headache spending countless hours piecing it together, only to realize you misplaced some crucial parts, looking like your 8-year-old nephew put it together, completely falling apart shortly after, while your partner says “I told you so”? Um… let’s get back on topic.

Sounds like a nightmare, right? Look, nothing can ever be guaranteed in marketing. However, one thing can be for certain: you are far more likely to reach success if you define what success means and develop a comprehensive strategy with steps to reach it.

Here’s why strategy matters.

Strategy helps you develop your brand voice. We live in a time where people want to feel connected to a brand. One way to help your audience feel connected is to give your brand a persona, a defined voice that gives them a human connection. In many cases, it’s time to ditch the dry, stale tone.

Strategy helps you define your target demographic. We all want to believe that EVERYONE wants our product or services, but the truth is, no product or service is truly for everyone.

Strategy helps you FIND your target demographic. Once you hone in on who your target audience truly is, now you’ve got to connect with them. Remember that each platform has its own built-in demographic and content nuances.

Strategy helps you detect what’s working (and what isn’t). An initial strategy, followed by testing and analyzing content performance gives you a road map for the future.

Strategy helps you save time and money. When you post without any strategy in place, you risk spending far more time (and potentially, money) developing content without a clear direction. This can get make it difficult to develop a strong, recognizable brand presence.
