Short-form video: A marketing strategy staple.

Short-form video: A marketing strategy staple.

Short-form video content, typically considered videos under 2 minutes in length, has absolutely exploded in popularity over the past few years. Between TikTok, Youtube Shorts, and Instagram/Facebook Reels, it’s been an attention-grab sprint for platforms and creators alike.

Why is this type of content so popular? For starters, the attention span of the average person online is shorter than a goldfish — yes, seriously. Couple that with platforms designed algorithmically to feed users random videos that give them a little burst of dopamine based on their history on the app, and you’ve got something that can hook users in for hours.

Here are a few ways to level up your short-form video content:

1. Define and own your niche. If you try to appeal to everyone, you appeal to no one. You (and your content) aren’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Be self-aware and internally define who you (your business) truly are and create content around that.
2. Entertain. When it comes to building an audience, you can build width (more followers) or depth (deeper connections). Short-form video content with an entertainment factor can help you build in both.
3. Educate. People like to listen to people who truly know what they’re talking about. But, don’t just tell your audience that you’re the most knowledgeable, share your knowledge to become a trusted resource.
4. Don’t advertise. Social media users hate ads more than ever. There’s a reason TikTok tells advertisers “don’t create ads, create TikToks.” Create genuine short-form video content that builds a connection with your audience and the leads will follow.

Elon Musk giving ‘serious thought’ to build a new social media platform

“If Musk decides to go ahead with creating a new platform, he would be joining a growing portfolio of technology companies that are positioning themselves as champions of free speech and which hope to draw users who feel their views are suppressed on platforms such as Twitter (TWTR.N), Meta Platform’s (FB.O) Facebook and Alphabet-owned (GOOGL.O) Google’s YouTube.”
